Attendance Gains & Connecting with Teens at Bartram High School

Brian R. Johnson (2016 Neubauer Fellow) arrived as principal of John Bartram High School in fall 2019. He immediately took note of attendance challenges and put a plan in place to build an attendance team, improve school climate and address suspensions.  He shifted the attendance focus from discipline to connection. The school increased attendance by 8%. Notably, Bartram’s attendance improved even during remote learning. Read more about the specific ways Brian worked to connect with students here.
