Latanya Barrett

Principal, Harrity Elementary School
Mastery Charter Schools
2019 Neubauer Fellow

“I serve as a principal because every child deserves an excellent education regardless of their socio-economic background. It is my life’s work to support students’ passion for learning, to ensure access to greater opportunities, and to develop their awareness of positive racial identity, social justice matters, and the importance of community activism.”

Latanya has served as the principal of Mastery Charter Harrity Elementary Schools since 2016. Under her leadership, Harrity’s kindergarten through second grade reading proficiency has increased by 18%. Harrity has also been recognized by the School District of Philadelphia for two tiers of growth on the School Progress Report.

Latanya has been an educator since 2004.  Prior to becoming a principal, Latanya served as an elementary teacher, school counselor, dean, principal fellow and an assistant principal of instruction. Latanya was invited to attend and participate in Deloitte University’s Courageous Principals Academy. Latanya grew up in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.
