RHAWNHURST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – LED BY PERFORMANCE PARTNER JOY KINGWOOD – RECEIVES NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON AWARD

Rhawnhurst Elementary School, led by Philadelphia Academy of School Leaders Performance Partner Joy Kingwood, was recognized by the United States Department of Education as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School. The School District of Philadelphia noted in a statement, “Rhawnhurst is recognized as an Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing school, meaning that it is among Pennsylvania’s highest performing in closing the gaps that exist between various student groups and the entire student body.”

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private schools where students achieve high learning standards or make notable improvements in closing the achievement gap. This coveted award affirms the hard work of educators, students, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Kingwood joins five Neubauer Fellows who have received this distinction in years past.

Under Kingwood’s leadership, Rhawnhurst has successfully implemented programs that impact the school’s diverse community, representing many different nationalities and 27 languages.
