Central Names First Female Black Principal, Neubauer Fellow Katharine Davis

Central High School appoints Katharine Davis (2020 Fellow) its new principal. Kate is the first woman and the first person of color to lead the 186-year-old institution. Kate grew up in Philadelphia. She attended Henry Elementary School, where she is currently Principal, and she is a 2005 graduate of Central.

Assistant Superintendent, Ted Domers, who led the search, said “Kate came across as someone passionate and committed to social justice, as strategic, thoughtful, and poised,” Search committee and school community members agree that Kate best embodies what the community hopes the next principal will bring to school leadership. Kate said, “For many reasons, the time has come … for a diverse individual to lead the school. I am honored to be the first female and the first African American to lead Central.”
